What Record Label Is Kendrick Lamar Signed To?

Kendrick Lamar, the iconic rapper whose discography has left a lasting mark on the music industry, has moved on from Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), the west coast record label that was his musical home for nearly two decades. He now releases music through his own creative company, pgLang, in partnership with Interscope Records.

Throughout his career with TDE, Kendrick Lamar has consistently pushed the boundaries of what hip-hop can be, using his platform to address complex social issues and redefine the genre. His time with TDE stands as proof of his immense talent and what strong creative partnerships can achieve.

Kendrick Lamar’s Departure from Top Dawg Entertainment

In August of the previous year, Lamar announced that he was crafting his final album under the TDE banner. Sharing a message on his website via a social media post, he reflected on his time with the label.

His words revealed a sense of satisfaction and gratitude for the experience, which he described as “such a cultural imprint after 17 years.” Lamar expressed his joy at being a part of TDE’s legacy, citing the struggles, success, and, most importantly, the brotherhood that defined his tenure with the label.

Full Support from TDE

Despite the shift in dynamics, there remains a strong sense of respect and mutual support between Lamar and TDE. Following the announcement of Lamar’s final album for TDE, the label’s CEO, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, expressed his unwavering support for Lamar.

Tiffith celebrated Lamar’s impending departure as a “VICTORY LAP” and voiced confidence in the success of Lamar’s future endeavors, promising that he would have “our FULL support“.

That move opened a new chapter for Kendrick Lamar. His first album away from TDE, GNX, arrived as a surprise release on November 22, 2024 through pgLang and Interscope, earning wide acclaim and topping the Billboard 200. The end of his TDE era marked the start of fresh ventures for one of the greatest artists of his generation.
