Radiohead is an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. They are one of the greatest bands of all time, and their music has had a massive influence on several bands for over two decades. Though typically classified as alternative rock, their sound is difficult to define.
I’ve found ten bands that really capture the essence of Radiohead.

1. Atoms for Peace
Thom Yorke, Radiohead’s frontman, started Atoms for Peace in 2009 as a side project. The band includes drummer Joey Waronker, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. They released their debut album, Amok, in 2013. The music draws heavily from electronica and experimental styles, creating a distinct Radiohead-like sound.
2. Muse
Muse is an English rock band formed in 1994. They’ve released eight studio albums, starting with their debut in 1995. Many Radiohead fans reckon Muse is the closest in sound and style to Radiohead.
Matt Bellamy, the lead singer, has a voice strikingly similar to Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Songs such as “Muscle Museum,” “Sunburn,” and “Sober” from their “Showbiz” album echo Radiohead’s sound and rock ballad style.
3. Coldplay
Coldplay, a British rock band formed in 1996, has sold over 100 million records globally. Their sound, often compared to Radiohead’s, features distinctive alternative rock elements and guitar riffs.
Chris Martin often says Radiohead is one of his favorite bands and a significant influence. Coldplay’s single “Shiver” mirrors Radiohead’s style.
4. Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire, a Canadian indie rock band, formed in 2001. They’ve released five studio albums, known for their eclectic mix of genres. Using synthesizers and keyboards, their style is comparable to Radiohead, an early inspiration for the band.
5. Nirvana
Nirvana is an American grunge band formed in 1987. They’re seen as one of the most influential bands ever, selling over 75 million records.
The band set the stage for grunge, and their style shares similarities with others. For example, Radiohead’s 1995 song “Just” sounds like Nirvana’s 1991 hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
6. Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd is an English progressive rock band formed in 1964. They’re seen as one of the most successful and influential bands ever.
Radiohead has cited them as an influence, noting their dark, psychedelic sound, which is similar to Radiohead’s “The Bends” era. Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” and Radiohead’s “Ok Computer” are often compared.
7. The Smashing Pumpkins
The Smashing Pumpkins, an American alternative rock band, formed in 1988. They’ve released six studio albums since their first in 1991. Both The Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead, popular in the 1990s, experimented with alternative sounds. While often labeled as grunge, Radiohead’s sound tends to be more mellow and introspective.

U2, an Irish rock band formed in 1976, is one of the most successful bands ever with over 150 million records sold. Their sound often compares to Radiohead, thanks to their alternative rock style and use of electronic instruments.
9. Oasis
Oasis is an English rock band created in 1991. They’re one of the most successful and influential bands ever. Emerging alongside Radiohead, they pioneered Britpop. Their sound is often compared to Radiohead’s.
10. Bon Iver
Bon Iver, started in 2006, is a folk band with four studio albums. They mix in some psychedelic vibes, and although they stick to traditional song styles, their sound often resembles Radiohead’s.
